GUJRAT:

A man was shot dead and another was injured on Monday at a cattle market by a group of men following an argument over purchase of animal.

Thikriwala police said that Muhammad Sultan and his accomplices had an argument with Mazhar Abbas of Ahmadpur Sial and Muhammad Asif of Saddar over purchase of a sacrificial animal at the Saddar market.  The injured men were taken to a hospital, where Abbas died a few hours later. Doctors treating Asif said that he was in a critical condition.

An FIR had been registered and the body was sent for a post-mortem examination. No one has been arrested so far.

A buyer and a dealer got into an argument at a cattle market in Rafiqabad here on Monday. The argument led to fisticuffs leaving four men injured.

Witnesses said Muhammad Jameel had wanted a cattle dealer to pay Rs25,000 for a goat offered for Rs35,000.

They said the cattle dealer refused to sell at that price. They said when Jameel tried to open the goat’s mouth, apparently to check its teeth, the dealer pushed him away. This led to an argument and then a fist fight. Some men tried to stop them, and were also injured.

Also on Monday, a cattle thief was caught red-handed by Rehmania police. They said the man was arrested while he was trying to steal a goat from in front of a house. The goat’s owner Mehr Tariq said that he had bought the goat for Rs20,000 a week ago.

The thief was indentified as Rasheed Shabbir, who the police said, confessed to having stolen several goats earlier. He told police he had sold them in nearby villages.
