ISLAMABAD:
“Gen (retd) Pervez Musharraf has boldly faced all the cases against and will never flee from the country,” said All Pakistan Muslim League (APML) General Secretary Dr Muhammad Amjad on Sunday while talking to The Express Tribune.

“Our leader has manfully faced all charges without putting blames on others; so why would he leave the country now that he has got bails in most of the cases?” said Amjad, adding that Musharraf had himself taken the difficult path to return to the country and face the cases.

He said when the Sindh High Court had cancelled his bails in Akbar Bugti and Benazir Bhutto murder cases, it had also asked government not to allow him to leave the country till he got bails in all these cases.

“But there was no condition upon him to stay in the country till his acquittal in all the cases,” he said adding that Musharraf – on the directives of the court – not only surrendered but also faced the charges from which he had been bailed out except for the Lal Mosque case.

Amjad said that after receiving bail in Lal Mosque case, the APML might go to court to challenge the decision of putting his name in the Exit Control List (ECL), if it felt necessary.

“However, the party is no more interested in the ECL issue because our leader wants to re-organise the party after release as he has gained significant popularity due to his principled stance to face the allegations leveled against him,” he added.
