Discrimination: PS-85 women protest denial of right to vote
They demanded re-polling at PS-85.
KARACHI:
Scores of women supporters from Mirpur Sakro's PS-85 constituency in district Thatta staged a protest against what they claimed as the 'denial of right to vote' by influential persons on May 11 earlier this year.
The protesters, hailing from remote areas of Mirpur Sakro taluka, shouted slogans outside the Karachi Press Club on Sunday and appealed to the Sindh High Court's chief justice to take notice of the denial of women's rights and the delay of the court's response over the issue. They demanded re-polling at PS-85, claiming that the process of counting had not been transparent.
"Over 10,000 of our women at 25 polling stations were not allowed to cast their votes," alleged Amina Samoon, who led the protest. "Are we not Pakistanis? Why the delay in granting us our rights then? The officials stopped us from voting then and the courts are delaying justice now," complained another participant, Zarina Baloch.
