The decision to increase weapons held by Balochistan police was under discussion since the new government came to power.
Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and Army chief General Ashfaq Kayani had met and decided that the army would provide as many weapons as possible without causing a dent in their own operations.
The purpose of providing more ammunition is to help the Balochistan police with combating rising terrorism in the province.

Balochistan police needs "Will to fight" more than weapons. It is an untrained, corrupt, unwilling & morally degraded force, where some more weapons & few good officers hired/posted from here and there will not make any difference. Rather these few good officers are targeted by their own force through intelligence leakages. So what is to be done? 1. Revamp 7 reorganize this force. All the police men involved in any crime or mole of criminals should be dismissed from service 2. SHO culture should be buried and Police Station should be placed under command of young ASPs. Police Stations should look after the prosecution & investigations alone. 3. Crime combat units should be separated from the police stations. These units should be commanded by SSPs with sizable force. They should be mobile, armed and hard hitting. 4. 25% strength of Police should be employed on collecting local intelligence. They should work in coordination with the police combat units and also assist in prosecution at Police Station Level.
They do not need upgrades to fight Terrorism but they need to be sincere with themselves and also with people as well..
I just hope that those machines really mean improvement in law n order and governance ! They may only be good for self protection of the Balochistan Police...
Several clichés come to mind: using penicillin to combat cancer, shutting the barn door after the horse has bolted etc. The bottom line is that this will not work. A well-known superpower, embraced by our foolish leaders as a dear friend, together with its regional proxies hide behind the mask of Baluch nationalism. This iron fist in a velvet glove will crush all who oppose it. Yet again, several thoughts come to mind, but the common theme amongst them is that this is the price (dismemberment) a nation pays for having leaders who lack foresight and intelligence, who are corrupt and selfish and willingly sell their subjects' future for their own personal gain. This is no different to what the nawabs and sardars did under the British Raj...the successive Pakistani governments were and are Quislings for neo-colonialists. Perhaps the most damage was done by Musharraf, and what is his punishment ? Freedom from house-arrest as a prelude to a flight out of the country and reunion with his ill-gotten gains.
The mythical War on Terror is simply a euphemism for Colonialism the Sequel. Local toadies repeat the received mantra from their neo-colonial overlords that this is War is OUR war, for our interests, that bombing and strafing our own citizens on the say-so of foreign manipulators is in OUR long-term interest. That allowing drones to freely murder women and children is in OUR interest.
Only now, at the end, when the course of events is irreversible, does realisation dawn. A great pity. And the regional proxy mentioned earlier, has also miscalculated...for it is next in line to be swallowed up. Divide and Rule, remember ?
