PESHAWAR:

MNA and former chief minister Amir Haider Khan Hoti filed a writ petition at the Peshawar High Court (PHC) on Saturday, seeking the disposal of an application filed by his opponent for a recount of votes polled in the general elections.

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) candidate Nasir Khan earlier filed an application in the election tribunal, seeking a recount in the NA-9 Mardan-1 constituency, claiming massive rigging took place on Election Day.

On Saturday, Hoti filed his petition at the PHC through Barrister Waqar and Advocate Obaid Razak, urging Nasir’s petition not be proceeded upon and be disposed off.

Hoti filed the petition on the grounds that another one of his opponents – Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz’s Khawaja Muhammad Khan Hoti – had also filed an application of the same nature in the election tribunal earlier, but the application was disposed of without a decision.

Hoti insists since one application was already disposed of, the second one of the same nature should not be entertained either.

Amir Haider Hoti of the Awami National Party won the national assembly seat from NA-9 Mardan-1 with a total of 44,769 votes. Nasir Khan of PTI came in second with 42,068 votes, while Khawaja Muhammad Khan Hoti of PML-N bagged 32,090 votes in the May 11 polls.

Hoti also won the provincial assembly seat from PK-23 Mardan-1. However, he vacated the provincial assembly seat in favour of the national assembly.
