LAHORE: The Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf on Friday filed a petition in the Lahore High Court (LHC) challenging the constitution of district coordination committees in the province.

Leader of the Opposition in the Punjab Assembly Mian Mahmoodur Rasheed is one of the petitioners. The petition says that unelected people from the PML-N had been appointed to the committees instead of the people who had been elected.

The petitioners alleged that the PML-N wanted to influence local government election through these committees. They said funds would be disbursed to these committees to help the PML-N campaign.

The petitioners prayed to the court to set aside the constitution of the district coordination committees and direct the provincial government to reconstitute them with elected members.
