KARACHI:
The Sindh High Court (SHC) ordered the former interior secretary to pay Rs50,000 from his salary account to a petitioner for illegally and wrongfully placing his name on the Exit Control List.
Kamran Raza had taken the interior secretary, director-general and the additional director of the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) to the court for placing travel restrictions on him.
The petitioner said that he was working as branch manager in Allied Bank Limited when the FIA initiated inquiry into fraudulent accounts maintained by the M/s Bita Textiles Limited.
The petitioner claimed the interior ministry has placed his name in the Exit Control List without assigning any legal justification, which violated his right of free movement.
During the proceedings, the two judges learnt that the ministry has illegally and wrongfully put a travel ban on the petitioner.
The SHC ordered the interior secretary to pay Rs50,000 as compensation to the petitioner from his own salary account instead of the national exchequer within 30 days.
