KARACHI:

The managing director for the Karachi Water and Sewerage Board (KWSB) and administrator of the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) have been asked to submit a written application in court as to why action should not be taken against them for disobeying the court's orders.

The two judges of the Sindh High Court gave this order while expressing their displeasure with the head of the civic bodies who failed to appraise the court about efforts made to stop the supply of unsafe drinking water to the people.

Rana Faizul Hasan, a representative of the United Human Rights Commission of Pakistan, had named the provincial chief secretary, irrigation secretary, KWSB MD, director-general of Pakistan Standards and Quality Control Authority and the KMC administrator as respondents. He said that millions of residents of Karachi were receiving contaminated water, which is highly injurious to their health.
