Crime wave: Constable killed for resisting robbery
Reports of theft and vehicle snatching in the city abound.

A police constable and two other citizens were critically injured in three incidents on resisting robbers, several houses were broken into and valuables were snatched from travellers on the highway on Tuesday.
Police told The Express Tribune that Constable Rasheed Ahmad, 39, a resident of Nalka Kohala, Sargodha Road, was on his way from work in Qila Gujjar Singhwala when four men stopped him near Chak 49-JB Munda Pind.
They tried to snatch Ahmad’s motorcycle and valuables but he resisted. The robbers shot him and fled. Ahmad was taken to Allied Hospital for treatment but succumbed to his injuries.
His body has been taken to a mortuary for post mortem examination.
Relatives of the deceased staged a demonstration in front of Allied Hospital and demanded the police arrest the murderers.
Nishatabad DSP and SHO reached the scene and assured the relatives that they would take swift action.
Haneef Ahmad was shot and seriously injured when he resisted robbery on the highway near Chak 56-GB.
Ali Hassan was shot for resisting robbery in Raza Abad.
Armed men broke into Abdul Wahab’s hosue in Lasani Town. They tied up the inmates and took away Rs400,000, jewellery and valuables before driving off in Wahab’s car. Armed men also broke into Shehryar’s house in Chak 37-JB and took away valuables. Gold jewellery, Rs500,000 and other valuables were stolen from Asif Ali’s house in Chak 204-RB. Robbers broke into Jamshed Haider’s house in Chak 421-GB.
Robbers driving a truck took away 15 goats from Abdul Majid’s house in Sabina Town. In a separate incident, robbers broke into Nazim Hussain’s dera in Chak 239-GB and tied up the employees there.
They loaded the animals on to a truck and fled. Nasima Bibi, a resident of Kehakshan Colony, was deprived of gold jewellery; Robbers snatched Rs70,000 from Nazeer Ahmad in Abdullah Garden; and Abdullah was deprived of Rs35,000 and a mobile phone on Satiana Road.
Salamat Ali’s motorcycle was snatched at Jhal Bridge; Abu Bakar’s motorcycle was snatched on the highway near Chak 137-GB; Zeeshan Ali’s motorcycle was snatched on Canal Road. Robbers snatched Muhammad Rashid’s motorcycle near Hameed Palace; Ikram Khan’s motorcycle was snatched on Samundari Road; robbers took Muhammad Azam’s motorcycle on Canal Road; Nadeem Hussain’s motorcycle was stolen in Muslim Town and Muhammad Saleem’s motorcycle was stolen in Chak 203-RB. Robbers took away Abid Hussain’s auto-rickshaw on Munnianwala Road. Maqbool Ahmad’s and Qaisar Mehmood’s cars were stolen near Sitara Mall and Rex City. Robbers took away a mini-truck from Abdur Rehman near Koh-i-Noor. Akbar Ali’s motorcycle was snatched near General Bus Stand, Imran Hussain’s motorcycle was stolen near Chak 58-JB and Junaid Ahmad’s motorcycle was snatched on Maqbool Road.
Sehar Usman was mugged in Samanabad. Robbers stole batteries from a mobile phone tower in Karamat Abad. Valuables were stolen from Ghulam Jillani’s dera in Chak 186-RB. Police have registered cases of all incidents.
