Local Govt Law: Elahi challenges party-less elections
Elahi claimed that the PML-N wanted to “establish a dictatorship” in the Punjab through the party-less local polls.
LAHORE:
PML-Q leader and MNA Pervaiz Elahi has challenged government plans to hold local election on a party-less basis and the reduced number of seats reserved for women and minorities under the new system. The reduction in reserved seats is a violation of the rights of women and minorities, the petitioner argued. He claimed that the PML-N wanted to “establish a dictatorship” in the Punjab through the party-less local polls. He said party-less elections would go against the spirit of democracy and political independence. He asked the court to set aside the provision of the law relating to elections on a party-less basis.
