Understanding: IPRs laws Judicial officers told to enhance intellect
Justice Azmat Saeed laments growing ‘Intellectual laziness’ in society, stresses renaissance of ideas.
A Supreme Court judge has expressed concern over the decline in intellectual and professional standards in society, in general and in judiciary, in particular.
“We have become intellectually lazy, cynical and need an intellectual renaissance,” Justice Sheikh Azmat Saeed said while addressing the inaugural ceremony of a week-long orientation for civil judges at the Federal Judicial Academy (FJA) here on Monday.
According to a press release, 20 young judicial officers from all over the country, including two female judges from Islamabad, are participating in the orientation on case management and enforcement of intellectual property rights (IPRs) laws here at the Federal Judicial Academy (FJA.
“We need such teaching and training strategies in the educational and training institutions which genuinely foster basic moral and intellectual power among the young people.
He also stressed the need for ideas and practices which could strengthen the abilities, concepts and virtues among youth.
The judge also emphasised on the participants to acquire knowledge, update their information and adopt new methods as well as tools of research to apply them effectively.
“If your basic concepts about the IPR laws are not clear, these trainings are nothing but wastage of time, energy and resources.”
He asked the officers to command respect among lawyers and litigants with competence and integrity to manage court and cases.
The intellectual and professional weaknesses and dishonesty of a judge travels faster than their reputation among the litigants and bar associations, Justice Saeed observed.
“Keep one thing in mind that courage corruption never breeds courage’”, the judged remarked. He urged the participants to live within their means.
Importance of heritage
Judge Saeed also sensitised the judicial officers about the importance of spots of scenic value in the vicinity of Islamabad including archeological and historical sites as well as also the teachings of Gautama Buddha.
