Ambushed: Two police officials killed in shootout

The DPO ordered police to seal all exit and entry routes to Taunsa.

Two policemen died in an encounter with some criminals in Taunsa, Dera Ghazi Khan, on Monday.


Residents of DG Khan sub-district had staged a protest demonstration early on Monday following theft of four motorcycles during the day. They blocked Indus National Highway for traffic for more than two hours and demanded police take action against the thieves.

District Police Officer Abid then ordered several pickets to be set up in the district. Four masked men on two motorcycles were stopped at one of the pickets in DG Khan but they opened fire at the police and fled.

The police chased them from the Kala police station area in DG Khan to the Taunsa City area.

The police said they were ambushed by accomplices of the men they were chasing, on the National Highway near Jhok Rohail Waala, Taunsa. Inspector Ghulam Mujtaba Gurmani and ASI Irshad Jamwani were critically injured in the shootout. They were taken to the DG Khan DHQ hospital’s trauma centre but died on the way.

The DPO ordered police to seal all exit and entry routes to Taunsa and sent a 200 strong police contingent to arrest the criminals. The operation was underway till the filing of the story.
