World Teachers' Day: 'Educators are an asset of nation'

Knowledge, education helps trigger revolutions, says professor.

SUKKUR: Teachers strive for social change, character building and personality development of the students with the power of pen, hence, they are an asset of a nation.

This was said by Shah Abdul Latif University (Salu), Khairpur, Faculty of Social Sciences and Arts dean, Professor Dr Syed Ahmed Hussain Shah, during an event organised to observe World Teachers' Day on Monday. Dr Shah added that the revolutions throughout the world were triggered with the help of education.

Faculty of Natural Sciences Dean Professor Dr Yasmeen Faiz Kazi said the students must divert their ideas and energies for the pursuit of excellence in education. He also stressed the need for maintaining good teacher-student relationships.

Former dean of Faculty of Commerce and Business Administration, Professor Shah Mohammad Luhrani, remarked that teachers are the guide and students are the ability, adding that there were two forms of teaching methods - formal and non-formal. He highlighted the revolutionary role of Karl Marx and other philosophers who gave non -formal education by virtue of their ideas.

Professor Dr Mohammed Nawaz Chand said that teachers must play their due role in eradicating social evils from the society. Department of International Relations chairperson, Professor Dr Abdul Majeed Chandio, stressed the need for the revival of the students' union.
