ISLAMABAD:
Legal wizards of the government burnt the midnight oil on Monday to come up with a strategy to contest the NRO’ s review as well as its implementation in the Supreme Court tomorrow (Wednesday), The Express Tribune has learnt.
“The government’s legal team, including two advisers to the prime minister, discussed the Supreme Court’s observation on rejecting the government plea seeking more time to find a replacement of Kamal Azfar,” sources in the law ministry said. The final strategy would be chalked out today (Tuesday). Attendees at the meeting included the prime minister’s advisers Sardar Latif Khosa and Kamal Azfar. Law Secretary Masood Chishti, who was accompanying Law Minister Babar Awan, at Lahore also attended the meeting.
The government would soon appoint a new counsel, so that he can argue on behalf of the government in the NRO review case, Attorney-General Maulvi Anwar-ul-Haq told The Express Tribune. “However, the final decision will be taken today in this regard,” he said. The meeting decided that the final strategy will be devised at the law ministry today. Later on, Law Minister Awan will meet Prime Minister Gilani on Tuesday evening. The decision about the new counsel in replacement of Kamal Azfar would be taken in the presence of Solicitor General Syed Nasir Ali Shah.
