GUJRANWALA:
Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif visited the house of a 10-year-old deaf and dumb girl who was raped by a neighbour in Dhakki Sundar Sangha on September 19. He announced Rs300,000 assistance for her family and assured them of his full support. He said the suspect would be dealt with under the law.

The suspect, who the police said, had confessed to the crime, was arrested on September 23, shortly after the girl’s mother filed a complaint.

Police said the girl was kidnapped from outside her house. The kidnapper had detained her at his house for the night and raped her. She had managed to escape the next morning when he left for work. Police said she had told her mother about it and taken her to the house and identified the rapist.

Her mother said she was initially afraid to report the case. She finally registered an FIR with the Khayali police four days after the incident and the suspect was arrested.

The chief minister was told that the family were being pressed to withdraw the case. The girl’s mother said that she would not make a compromise. The chief minister directed the regional police officer to send him a detailed report on the case in 24 hours.
