KARACHI:

Sindh Rangers raided a house which reportedly belongs to the defunct Peoples Amn Committee chief, Uzair Baluch, in Singho-Lane on Saturday.

The well-decorated house, located in a muddy slum area, was, however, found to be empty as Uzair and his associates had already managed to escape before the operation. During the several hours-long search operation, the law enforcement agencies failed to find any persons or weapons from inside the house.

“Following the raid of Baloch’s house, the law enforcement agencies also conducted raids in different areas of Lyari and arrested several criminals and seized a huge cache of ammunition from their possession,” said the Rangers’ spokesperson.

Law enforcement personnel sealed all entry and exit points to restrict the movement of the general public in the areas where the raids were conducted. The areas included Nawa Lane, Afshani Galli, Cheel Chowk, Kala Kot, and Chakiwara. A heavy continent of Rangers personnel, including female rangers and sniffer dogs, took part in the operation which lasted several hours.

The spokesperson added that a search operation was also conducted in other areas of the city, including Khori Garden, SherShah, New Karachi, Hussainabad, Hyderi, Dawood Regency in Gaddap, Micassa Centre, Machar Colony, Baldia Town, Malir in Khokrapar, Liaqatabad, and Azizabad last night.

During the raids, at least 27 suspects, including alleged Lyari gangs’ members and target killers affiliated with different political groups, were apprehended.

Meanwhile, Rangers personnel, acting on a tip-off also conducted a targeted operation in Azizabad and arrested two notorious target killers who were allegedly affiliated with a political party. “These target killers were involved in numerous cases of politically motivated targeted killings.” He added that weapons, including five SMGs, four rifles, a shotgun, 12 pistols, a hand grenade and bullet proof jackets were also seized from their possession.

Separately, Sindh police conducted targeted raids in Defence Housing Authority, Mehmoodabad and Baloch Colony and arrested 28 alleged criminals.
