Students to govt: Enhance dignity, social status of teachers
The participants highlighted the role of teachers in nation-building and society.
Participants of a walk here on Saturday urged the government to uphold the dignity of teachers by addressing their social and financial problems.
They called for ensuring job security to teachers and enhance their salary package, said a press release.
Various organisations had organised a number of programmes, including walks and seminars in twin cities of Islamabad-Rawalpindi and Azad Kashmir in connection with World Teacher Day on Saturday.
A walk was organised by United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation in collaboration with Ghazali Education Trust.
Hundreds of students, teachers from various institutions, people from diversified folks and civil society members participated in the walk.
Participants of the walk marched from China Chowk upto the D-Chowk holding placards banners, inscribed with slogan of teacher’s veneration and reverence.
The participants highlighted the role of teachers in nation-building and society.
Unesco Deputy Director Dr Roshan Chitrakar while speaking to the participants said non-availability of resources and economic instability were the crucial problems of the teachers.
He urged the government to improve their service structure and augment their dignity.
The participants put forward a number of demands including formation of a commission to chalk out a concrete policy for teachers; induction of teachers on permanent basis, their capacity building through training; better grade according to their skills and qualification; accommodation.
