MULTAN:

A police razakar (volunteer) was injured in a shootout with drug peddlers in Qutub Pur Colony, police said on Wednesday.

Police said volunteer Muhammad Aamir was injured when four men on two motorcycles opened fire at police after they were stopped at a check post near Kangla Chowk.

Police said the criminals, Faizan, Kaleem, Sajjad and Shehzad had been arrested. “Five kilogram hashish has been recovered from the men...they were wanted in several drug peddling cases,” police said.

Doctors at Nishtar Hospital told The Express Tribune that Aamir’s condition was out of danger.

In another incident, Multan Anti Narcotics Force on Wednesday seized 4,000 kg of explosive material in Jahanian.

Police said the explosive was being trucked to Tharparkar for fireworks manufacture. The driver of the truck, Imdad Hussain, told police that he did not know he was carrying explosive material. He told police that he had been told that the shipment contained vegetables. He said he did not bother to check.
