Growers complain of fake pesticides

Ayaz Soomro says amendment bill on pesticides will be presented session of Sindh Assembly.

KARACHI:
Sindh Law Minister Ayaz Soomro said that an amendment bill on pesticides will be presented at the session of the Sindh Assembly.

He said all the district public prosecutors of the province had been asked to compile reports of cases against corruption in pesticides.

“A few days ago a delegation of growers from Sindh had a meeting with President Asif Ali Zardari, at which they complained about the selling of fake pesticides,” he said, adding that, “the president said that the selling of fake pesticides could not be put to an end because of nominal punishments under the existing law”.

The president has directed the Ministry of Law and Parliamentary Affairs to introduce legislation in the Sindh Assembly for a revision in exemplary punishment.

As a result, the chief secretary of Sindh has dismissed the deputy district public prosecutor of Karachi West, Zaiton Jehan, due to negligence of duty.
