Distance learning: Govt to support AIOU-AAOU joint efforts

To promote skill and technology-based quality education through distant learning, the government will support a joint venture by Allama Iqbal Open University (AIOU) and Asian Association of Open Universities (AAOU). This was said by Minister of State for Education Baleeghur Rehman who inaugurated the 27th annual conference of AAOU on Wednesday at AIOU’s main campus.

The two-day conference was attended by nearly 200 delegates from home and abroad.
An award was conferred upon Dr Wang Tat Meng of Wawasan Open University, Penang, Malaysia for meritorious services for his outstanding contribution to the development of distance learning system.
The minister called for setting up a Pakistan chapter of AAOU in collaboration with AIOU and the Higher Education Commission.
He proposed the establishment of a research centre of excellence at AIOU for technology-based education.
