A day after an anti-terrorism court (ATC) remanded to police custody the couple allegedly involved in the kidnapping and murder of a 13-year-old schoolgirl, the ATC-II also sent on Wednesday their accomplice to police custody till October 9.

The court remanded the suspect, Waqar, on charges of making three ransom calls to the family of the victim. The class four student was taken away from her school in Azizabad on September 24 and was found dead at Sea View on September 26.

Following the murder, the police detained a cousin of the victim, Reema, and her husband, Bilal, from Bilal Colony on September 28. The police also claimed to have confiscated the mobile phone used to make the calls and a motorcycle from the suspects. According to the police, the couple had orchestrated the girl’s kidnapping but they killed her when the case was reported.

The police arrested Waqar from Azizabad on Tuesday night. DSP Saleem Akhtar Siddiqui said that the accused was arrested on the information provided by Bilal. The official said that he made three phone calls to the father of the victim and demanded Rs1 million as ransom. He said that another suspect, Shahid, has also been arrested from Quetta and a police team is shifting him to Karachi to book him in an FIR, if found guilty.
