UC-1 Thul residents demand help

UC 1 of Thul Town is not declared flood hit by the govt and the residents are not happy about it.

SUKKUR:
Union council (UC) 1 of Thul Town was not declared flood hit by the government and the residents are not happy about it.

Staging a protest on Monday, dozens of people gathered outside the municipal office and shouted slogans against revenue officers for not including their UC in the list of flood-affected areas.

The protest was organised by Shehri Ittehad and was led by its president, Maulana Ali Hassan Buriro.

According to the protesters, UC1 of Thul  includes the main city, markets and the Hindu neighbourhood and these areas were definitely affected by the floods, ‘directly or indirectly’.

Even if some areas were not directly flooded, their residents were forced to evacuate their homes because of the warnings issued by the administration, they added.

Criticising the revenue officers, the protesters said that because of the management’s negligence the residents were being deprived of any kind of flood relief.

It is because of the Mukhtiarkar Thul that the UC was not included in the list, added the angry residents.

However, the mukhtiarkar, Abdul Malik Khoso, said he had sent the names of both union councils of Thul to be included in the list of flood-affected areas. “I don’t know how union council 1 is not included in the list!” Khoso said, talking to The Express Tribune on phone.

The government only included Union Council 2 in the list, added Khoso. He said that a report has been forwarded to higher officials and hopefully, UC 1 too will be included among the flood-hit areas and provided necessary relief.
