LAHORE:
A Lahore High Court (LHC) division bench on Tuesday suspended the sentence of a former Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) MPA Haji Nasir Mahmood who was charged with the possession of a fake degree and released him on bail.

Mahmood was accused of submitting a fake graduation degree to the ECP at the time of filing nomination papers for general elections 2008.

Gujrat district and sessions judge had earlier awarded 18-month imprisonment to the former parliamentarian. Supreme Court had ordered the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) to get a case registered against Mahmood and file a reference before the concerned sessions judge.

Mahmood had then challenged his conviction in the High Court.

Ruling over his case, the division bench suspended his sentence and granted bail to the appellant subject to him furnishing two surety bonds of Rs100,000 each.
