Telecom watchdog: Dr Shah takes over as PTA chairman

With the constitution of PTA it is now expected that the process of expediting the 3G auction will be made easier.

ISLAMABAD: Acting Chairman, Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) Dr Syed Ismail Shah and Member (Finance) Tariq Sultan have taken charge of their respective posts. The government in compliance with the Supreme Court’s orders has appointed three Members in PTA through a competitive process. Dr Syed Ismail Shah was appointed Member (Technical) and given acting charge of the Chairman PTA. Tariq Sultan has joined as Member (Finance) PTA. Justice (retd) Muhammad Raza Khan has been given additional charge of the post of Member (Compliance & Enforcement) in PTA. On Monday, Acting Chairman PTA and Member Finance held meeting with senior officers of the Authority to discuss long term measures to facilitate and regulate telecom industry of Pakistan. Senior PTA officers briefed them about different matters including auction of 3G spectrum. With the constitution of PTA it is now expected that the process of expediting the 3G auction will be made easier.
