Literacy drive: ‘Ensure regular monitoring to improve education standard’

Electricity available in 904 of the 1,085 schools inspected in August.

Hundred per cent attendance of students, teachers and staff should be ensured so that standard of education in the district improves, Additional District Collector Engr Amjad Basheer said at a district review committee meeting at the district coordination officer’s office on Monday.


Administration officers should regularly monitor the schools, he said.

District Monitoring Officer Abdul Majeed Rehmani said 1,085 schools (517 boys’ and 568 girls’ schools) in the district were monitored in August. As many as 149,061 students and 5,929 teachers had been present at the time of inspection, he said.

He said that 39 teachers and 13 non-teaching staff had been absent from duty at the time. 253 teachers were on leave and 73 were out-of-school on government duty. 49 non-teaching staff were on leave and 53 were out-of-school on government duty.

Majeed said that of the schools that were visited, electricity was available in 904 schools, drinking water in 1,062 schools, toilets in 1,068 schools and 1,009 schools had boundary walls.

The universal primary education students’ enrolment target set on August 15 was 30,528. As many as 27,028 new students had been enrolled by September 28.
