No plan to form public affairs unit according to PM House
Spokesman to the Prime Minister House has contradicted a news captioned “PM Nawaz to establish an administrative watchdog,” that appeared on September 27, 2013 in The Express Tribune.
The spokesman said the news item contends that Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif is going to establish Prime Minister Public Affairs Unit, headed by Hamza Shahbaz, an overarching body that would help him in improving governance and executing decisions.
“Although the Prime Minister is fully competent to establish any unit for monitoring the performance of various ministries, divisions and departments, however, the news of establishing Prime Minister’s Public Affairs Unit at the federal level under the chairmanship of Hamza Shahbaz is totally baseless and contrary to facts,” the spokesman said.
Besides, the very assertion made by the reporter that “the Public Affairs Unit will be a watchdog on cabinet and will indirectly perform the functions as de facto prime minister,” is incorrect, he stated, pointing out that, in a parliamentary form of government, the cabinet, with prime minister as its head, is the top most executive forum.
