BAHAWALPUR:

Liaqatpur police on Friday arrested a man suspected to have raped a seven-year-old.

Police said a Muhajir Colony resident was caught by some residents of Chak 23 in Abbasia for allegedly raping the child. He was beaten up and his moustache and head shaved. He was later handed over to the police.

A neighbour told The Express Tribune that on his way home, he heard a child’s scream. He said he had walked into the field and found the suspect raping the child. He said he had shouted for help and gathered some men who caught the man. He said they later called a barber, who shaved the man’s head and moustache.

Some residents took the boy to a hospital, where he was reported to be in critical condition. Station House Officer Rahim Ahmad told The Express Tribune that an FIR had been registered against the suspect with the child’s uncle as complainant.
