Zaman sets up final clash with Danish
Squash player beats Iqbal 3-2 in CAS championship semi-final.
KARACHI:
Farhan Zaman defeated Pakistan’s top ranked PSA player Nasir Iqbal 3-2 in their Chief of Air Staff (CAS) International Squash Championship semi-final held at the Hashim Khan Squash Complex in Peshawar yesterday.
Zaman, who recently won the DG Rangers (Sindh) Squash Championship by beating Iqbal, was in tremendous form during the match as he won the first game. However, he conceded the second set despite being 10-3 at one point. In the end, it was Zaman who carried the day with game scores of 11-5, 10-12, 11-5, 7-11 and 11-6.
In the final, he will face Danish Atlas Khan, who defeated elder brother and Asian champion Aamir Atlas Khan 3-1 with a scoreline of 11-1, 7-11, 11-8 and 11-9.
Pakistan head coach Jamshed Gul was pleased with the performances of youngsters Zaman and Danish as he believes that they have finally started to showcase their true potential.
“Zaman is in tremendous form right now and if he carries on like this, there is no reason why he shouldn’t make it to the top 30 in the world,” Gul told The Express Tribune. “As far as Danish is concerned, he played well too but I think Aamir isn’t at 100% otherwise he wouldn’t have lost so easily.”
