PESHAWAR:

On the request of opposition members, Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (K-P) Assembly speaker has convened the house to meet on September 30.

A day after Sunday’s twin blasts at All Saints’ Church that killed at least 83 people and injured over a hundred others, 35 opposition members submitted a requisition to hold a session to discuss the attack under a single-point agenda. Speaker Asad Qaiser obliged and called to hold a session a week after – a rare move that has not been witnessed for the past six years.

The requisition was signed by 35 lawmakers from the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F), Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) and Awami National Party (ANP) demanding to discuss the attack and develop a counterterrorism policy. It was then submitted to the office of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa Assembly Deputy Secretary Attaullah Khan.

Among the signatories were Opposition Leader Sardar Mehtab Ahmed Khan, PPP’s parliamentary leader Syed Muhammad Ali Shah Bacha, ANP’s parliamentary leader Sardar Hussain Babak and JUI-F’s Maulana Lutfur Rehman.

The session will begin on Monday at 3pm.
