LAHORE/KARACHI:

Two bodies were found near Karachi’s Northern Bypass on Thursday, with sources claiming that the deceased were notorious Lyari criminal Ghaffar Zikri and his bodyguard.

Zikri was the successor of Arshad Papu’s gang and had remained elusive since 2009. Unconfirmed reports suggest that he was found dead along with Raja Pathan in the incident.

Police was reluctant to disclose the identities of the two men when contacted. Head-money worth Rs300,000 had been announced for Zikri who was enlisted as a high profile terrorist.

Following the incident, unknown armed men resorted to aerial firing in different areas of Lyari, according to an unidentified source that labeled it celebratory firing given that the area is a stronghold of Zikri’s rival Baba Ladla.

The source further revealed that Gaffar Zikri had been missing since morning.

Meanwhile, another man accused of involvement in Lyari gang wars was arrested in Lahore on Thursday in a joint operation conducted by intelligence agencies and Sindh Police.
