World Tourism Day: TDCP plans painting, photo competitions
Water conservation is the theme for events this year.

The Tourism Development Corporation of Punjab (TDCP) will hold photography and painting competitions in collaboration with Lahore Photojournalists Association, at Alhmara Arts Council on September 27 to celebrate World Tourism Day.
The theme for World Tourism Day 2013 is Tourism and Water: Protecting Our Common Future.
As many as 600 paintings and photographs will be displayed.
Speaking to The Express Tribune, TDCP Marketing Manager Tahir Mehmood Rana said, “This year’s theme of World Tourism Day is important for Pakistan as our agrarian economy depends on supply of water. We will promote water conservation under the theme.”
TDCP Managing Director Habibur Rehman Gillani, said, “Pakistan is known for its cultural diversity, rich heritage and religious sites.”
He said Pakistan’s tourism industry was suffering because of the security situation.
He said promoting tourism would educate people about the country’s culture and history.
He said promoting water conservation was essential as resource scarcity was becoming a serious problem.
Lahore Photojournalists Association General Secretary Akmal Bhatti said, “56 photojournalists will submit over 100 pictures. We are also looking forward to guiding young photographers from various universities.”
Hira Zaidi, a student of Lahore Grammar School, said, “I’m looking forward to the event. I’m participating in both photography and painting competition.”
