The Lahore High Court on Tuesday sought a reply from the Drug Regulatory Authority to a petition seeking action against Health Department officials over the recent measles outbreak.
The petitioner’s counsel told the court that a committee had been set up to investigate the cause of the outbreak, in which several dozen children in the Punjab died, but the government had yet to reveal its findings. He asked the court to direct the government to produce the inquiry report.
Justice Muhammad Khalid Mahmood Khan directed the government to submit the reports at the next hearing on October 26.
The petitioner has argued that the outbreak was a result of the government’s failure to take preventive measures over the last few years. He said that the measles vaccine was not available in the province and the last immunisation drive had been carried out three years ago. He sought a judicial inquiry.
