KARACHI:
A district and sessions court convicted a man of robbery charges on Tuesday and sentenced him to three years in prison.
Meanwhile, the court also acquitted another man after the prosecution failed to establish a case against him. Ajmeen was found guilty of robbing Jafran and others on a bus, route D-11, near Dawood Chowrangi on October 22, 2011.
According to the prosecution, Ajmeen, accompanied by two accomplices, Akhtar Hussain and Akbar, had robbed Jafran and others in the bus and managed to escape from the scene. The suspects were arrested in another case and they had confessed to their involvement in the said offence during the course of investigation, stated the prosecution. Akhtar was acquitted because the complainant could only identify Ajmeen during the identification parade, said the prosecutor. The Malir district and sessions judge, Muhammad Yamin, announced the verdict and also imposed a fine of Rs5,000. In case of non-payment, the convict would undergo an additional three-month imprisonment, he ordered.
