ISLAMABAD:

A local court on Thursday adjourned hearing of an application filed by wife of the gunman in the Jinnah Avenue stand off until September 26.

The hearing was postponed without any proceedings as lawyers were on strike to protest police brutality against fellow black coats in Rahim Yar Khan.

Kanwal, the wife of gunman Sikandar, had moved the court of Additional Sessions Judge Basharat Mufti on September 9 to register a case against police and Pakistan People’s Party leader Zamurad Khan for injuring her husband.

In the application, Kanwal had stated that she and her husband were going to a wedding ceremony on August 15, the day of the stand-off, when police stopped them. Judge Mufti had accepted the application for hearing.

During earlier proceedings, the police had told the court that Kanwal’s application was based on lies and should thus be dismissed.
