Behind bars: Police arrest alleged extortionist

PESHAWAR:
The Pahripura police arrested Fawad Ali, a resident of Nawa Kalay, for demanding Rs2 million in extortion money from a government employee.

Addressing a news conference at Police Lines on Thursday, SP City Ismail said Hisbullah, an employee of Naseerullah Baber Memorial Hospital, lodged an FIR stating Fawad Ali was demanding extortion money from him. Hisbullah claimed he had received several calls and a letter from the accused.


As a result, the police started investigation and arrested Ali from Nawa Kalay. “This man was demanding extortion money on behalf of militants,” said SP Ismail. He said the police had arrested several people who were demanding extortion from traders and government servants, adding the crackdown will continue in the future.
