Medical education: UHS produces first PhD in surgery
The topic of her research was 'Prediction of Response to Chemotherapy in Breast Cancer'.
LAHORE:
The University of Health Sciences (UHS) has awarded a doctor of philosophy (PhD) degree in surgery to Samina Khokhar. She is the first surgeon in the country to be awarded a PhD in surgery. The topic of her research was 'Prediction of Response to Chemotherapy in Breast Cancer'. She completed the research under the supervision of Dr Naseer Ahmed, a professor of pathology. Her work was evaluated by Ian Ellis, professor of cancer pathology at the University of Nottingham, United Kingdom, and Dr Asma Ismail, deputy vice chancellor of Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM), Penang, Malaysia. She is also a fellow of College of Physicians and Surgeons of Pakistan (CPSP) and has been a supervisor and examiner for the college since 2002. Khokhar is currently heading the surgical division at the Institute of Nuclear Medicine and Oncology (INMOL).
