LAHORE: Admissions to the MA/MSc programmes for all departments at the Punjab University will start on Monday (today).

“Matriculation, intermediate and graduation results will be considered along with the marks obtained in the subjects the candidates want to pursue the master’s in,” A PU official said, “The admission process will be completed this month. The classes will start in November.”

This year, the Punjab University Institute of Social and Cultural Studies has launched MSc in public health with technical collaboration with University of Bielefeld, Germany.

On IJT activities

“Islami Jamiat-i-Talaba members have been sheltering armed people at PU hostels,” a PU spokesman said on Sunday. He said the Punjab Police must help the university evict these criminals.

The spokesman said the administration had obtained a list of contact numbers of the IJT nazmin, identity cards of some IJT activists and some literature from the room of a person arrested for his links to a banned organisation.

“This shows that some IJT elements having been working with terrorists,” he said, “We also believe that the fire at a room in the Old Campus hostel was the work of IJT workers.”

He said that an FIR had been registered and strict action would be taken against those found guilty.

An IJT spokesman rejected the allegations. He said that the PU administration had been issuing false statements. “The IJT has nothing to do with banned organisations. We haven’t been sheltering terrorists at hostels,” he said.
