Landslide victory: Progressive panel sweeps RIUJ polls
According to official results, the Progressive panel’s presidential candidate secured 620 votes.
ISLAMABAD:
Associated Press of Pakistan (APP) Employees Union President Aftab Zahoor has congratulated the Progressive panel on its landslide victory in the Rawalpindi-Islamabad Union of Journalists (RIUJ) elections.
According to official results announced late on Saturday night, the Progressive panel’s presidential candidate secured 620 votes while his rival from the Democratic panel bagged 190 votes.
Similarly, RIUJ General Secretary Bilal Dar received 578 votes, Joint Secretary Ayesha Khan 589 votes, Vice-President Ali Raza 550 votes, Vice-President Chaudhry Ishaq 500 votes and Finance Secretary Furqan Roa 572 votes.
All delegates of the panel were also elected.
Zahoor hoped that all elected members of the Progressive Panel would continue working for the welfare of the journalist community and resolve their problems on a priority basis.
He also assured the APP union of his full support for the newly-elected RIUJ president.
