FAISALABAD:

The body of a youth abducted from Ghulam Muhammadabad six days ago was found lying in a field in Chak Shehzada Dingro on Saturday.

Police said the deceased, Bilal Yaseen, a matric-student, was kidnapped from his home in Ejaz Town on September 8.

SHO Ghulam Muhammadabad told The Express Tribune that the police had registered a case on a complaint filed by the deceased’s father, Anees. The body had been sent to a mortuary for postmortem, he said.

Anees told the media that on the day of the incident some friends of Bilal had come to see him.  “They went out together and Bilal never returned,” he said.

“We told police that we suspected he had been kidnapped,” he said.

Anees said he believed his son could have been saved if police had arrested the suspects early.

Khalil Ahmed, a relative of Bilal, said some passers-by had informed the police about the body lying in a field.

He said, “The police called us to identify the body…if it weren’t for his clothes we could not have had recognised it,” he said.

Ghulam Muhammadabad SHO said, “We have arrested Akram, Bilal’s friend, who visited him the day he was abducted.” According to Akram, he said, Bilal left with a man named Ehsan soon after they met.

He said police had arrested Ehsan and he had confessed to murdering Bilal.

He said Ehsan had told them that Bilal had been blackmailing him over his relations with a girl.

“I strangled him with his own shirt and threw the body in the field,” he said.

The SHO said police were waiting for the medical examination report.
