Some residents of Darul Aman, a shelter home for women, on Friday set the building and its furniture on fire to protest against the district coordination officer’s decision to sack seven employees at the centre. A Rescue 1122 team stopped the fire from spreading in the neighbourhood. Policewomen were called and protestors Rukhsana, Naila Akhtar, Andleeb, Shama, Sunbal Bushra, Shazia and Nazneen were arrested. DCO Asif Bilal Lodhi had suspended officials – Superintendent Ghulam Sughra, Saqlain Shah, gatekeeper Khalid, Naib Qasid Subhani, Mehboob Hussain, Mualma Farzana and computer operator Abida – few days ago for allowing some of the residents to leave the premises without legal permission.
