Medical facilities: DUHS to set up hospital at DHA City Karachi

The medical complex will be built in four phases.

The medical complex will be built in four phases - a medical dispensary in phase I (2014-15), a medical centre in phase II (2015-16), secondary care hospital in phase III (2017-18) and a tertiary care hospital in phase IV (2019-23).

A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between the Defence Housing Authority, Karachi and DOW University of Health Sciences (DUHS) for the establishment of a 500-bed Tertiary Care Teaching Hospital as well as a Medical College at the DHA City Karachi (DCK).


The MOU was signed by DUHS Registrar Prof. Shaikh Nadeem Ahmed and DHA Secretary Brig. (R) Inam Karim on Thursday. Sindh Governor Dr Ishratul Ebad Khan, DUHS Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dr Masood Hameed Khan and DHA Administrator Brig. Muhammad Abdullah were also present on the occasion.

According to the MoU, DUHS will establish a fully operational Teaching University Hospital and a state-of-the-art Liver Transplant Centre at the Health Care City of DCK. The DUHS Medical Complex will be a significant part of DCK’s Health Care City spread over 85 acres.

The medical complex will be built in four phases - a medical dispensary in phase I (2014-15), a medical centre in phase II (2015-16), secondary care hospital in phase III (2017-18) and a tertiary care hospital in phase IV (2019-23).

DHA’s administrator said that presence of DUHS shows the confidence of people and stakeholders in the viability and efficacy of DCK. Ebad also praised the new initiative, saying that it was a significant step in providing people quality medical and health-care facilities.
