KARACHI:
Sindh High Court chief justice Mushir Alam is not satisfied with the way law enforcers are handling the city’s law and order situation.
In October 2011, the chief justice was appointed as the head of a committee - constituted by the Supreme Court during the suo motu proceedings on lawlessness in Karachi - to review the progress made by the provincial government and the law enforcers in improving law and order.
After nearly three years, Justice Mushir Alam, who has been elevated to the apex court, remarked that despite repeated directions, the government has failed to impress the courts. He was speaking to the media after a certificate-distribution ceremony organised by an NGO, Justice Helpline, at the high court premises on Wednesday.
Earlier, he awarded certificates to reporters associated with the electronic and print media in recognition of their role in objective coverage of the judiciary. Alam lauded the role of the media in the struggle for an independent judiciary. The journalists also discussed with the chief justice about the problems they face during coverage of the courts proceedings and also put up some suggestions.
Meanwhile, Alam constituted a ‘right to information’ committee and a media cell. The committee, headed by Justice Faisal Arab, would comprise Justice Muhammad Ali Mazhar and Justice Salahuddin Panhwar as its members.
