Air quality: 500 trees to be planted at Mayo

The trees will help cleanse the surroundings of the hospital and also improve the quality of air.

LAHORE:
Five hundred trees are to be planted at the Mayo Hospital Central Park here on Wednesday. King Edward Medical University Vice Chancellor Professor Faisal Masud, Mayo Hospital Medical Superintendent Dr Zahid Pervaiz and other professors and doctors will attend the ceremony. Dr Salman Kazmi, who is coordinating the plantation campaign, said that the objective was to improve air quality at the hospital. “There used to be many trees at the hospital. They were cut down to make space for various buildings. The trees will help cleanse the surroundings of the hospital and also improve the quality of air. The species of trees picked are friendly to the native environment. They are not being planted just for the sake of beauty ... many modern plants have no utility or benefits for the environment,” he said.
