PESHAWAR:

A notorious proclaimed offender identified as Yasin Khan was killed while a policeman was injured during a police encounter in Zakhel village on the outskirts of the city early Tuesday morning.

A police team of Mattani police station raided a house in Zakhel village where Khan was said to be hiding. Police asked him to surrender, but he opened fire, injuring Constable Inamur Rehman. Khan was killed in retaliatory firing, according to the police, who said he had been wanted for over six cases of murder and attempted murder. “A year ago, he entered a man’s house posing as a policeman, disarmed him and killed three members of the victim’s family in cold blood,” said a police official, adding Khan was one of the most wanted outlaws in the area for the past six years.

The injured policeman was shifted to Lady Reading Hospital (LRH) where his condition was said to be stable. Meanwhile, the bomb disposal squad (BDS) defused a medium-intensity homemade explosive device planted along the roadside in Haryana on the city’s outskirts. “The possible target was police vehicles plying along the road, but luckily it (the device) was spotted in time and defused,” said an official of Khazana police station.
