Transformer supply: LHC seeks answers on Lesco contract

The Lahore High Court on Thursday sought replies from the Pakistan Electric Power Company, National Transmission and Despatch Company and various private power companies to a petition challenging a contract awarded by the Lahore Electricity Supply Company (Lesco).
The petitioners, Pak Electron Limited and others, submitted that Lesco had issued show cause notices to various companies for supplying it substandard transformers.
The petitioner said that the Federal Investigation Agency was investigating the supply of poor quality transformers. He said though Lesco had banned these companies, they were taking part in the new auction for the transformer supply contract.
Lesco’s counsel told the court that the bidding process had not been completed and the contract would not be awarded within the next 10 days.
The court adjourned the hearing till September 13 and directed the respondents including the allegedly blacklisted companies to file replies.
