IBSF world champion Mohammad Asif registered a consolation win at the Sangsom 6-Red World Championship, defeating England’s legendary cueist Steve Davis 5-2 in his last Group H match in Bangkok, Thailand.
His career’s first stint against professional players did not go as he would have hoped with the 31-year-old facing defeats in four out of the five matches he played.
However, Asif managed to defeat Davis - literally a legend in the world of snooker with more professional titles than any other snooker player - with game scores of 38-16, 27-39, 1-31, 40-30, 0-73, 16-50 and 1-45 to take home at least some positive from the campaign.
The Pakistan cueist had recently stated that he will turn pro and will appear in the Professional Circuit from next year. He has also set sights on defending his world championship this year.
Meanwhile, compatriot Mohammad Majid failed to open his account in the competition after he succumbed to a 5-3 loss at the hands of Thailand’s Ratchayothin Yotharak.
Majid started brightly and grabbed a 3-2 lead in the match, only for Yotharak to bounce back and win by 19-36, 48-13, 0-67, 34-18, 40-7, 0-38, 24-43 and 1-57.
