NOCs for Dhaka league yet to materialise
Pakistan players criticise PCB for delaying chance of earning.
KARACHI:
Several international and first-class players of Pakistan await their No-Objection Certificates (NOCs) from the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) to appear in the Dhaka Premier League, scheduled to begin from September 10.
The players formally applied for permission from the board a couple of days ago. However, they are yet to receive the green signal to appear in the tournament.
It should be mentioned here that the PCB had barred Pakistan’s players from participating in the second edition of the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) this year in January after the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) refused to send its national team to Pakistan.
“PCB shouldn’t stop players earning the right way because it isn’t a crime to play in different leagues,” one of the players waiting for his NOC told The Express Tribune.
“The board should realise that we’re professionals and cricket is our bread and butter. The PCB should keep its differences with the BCB away from this matter. Whatever we get in one domestic season is peanuts; we can earn the same amount by appearing in one or two matches of the Dhaka Premier League.”
Another player added that had they been in any other country, they could have easily sued the cricket board for not allowing them to earn, a move that may lead to dishonest means of earning like match-fixing.
‘BCB should send proposal letter’
Meanwhile, the PCB is of the view that the issuance of NOCs may be considered once the BCB sends them a proposal letter for the event.
“There are some rules that need to be followed,” said a senior PCB official. “BCB should send us an offer letter and only then we’ll deliberate on the matter.”
