US embassy refutes claim of missing ISAF containers
Over 19,000 containers allegedly went missing and were carrying arms, ammunition and liquor.
KARACHI:
The US embassy on Thursday refuted media reports that claimed around 19,000 International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) containers were stolen from the Karachi port.
In a press release, the embassy stated that "media suggestions of stolen containers, including those containing weapons and ammunition, are false."
"While the United States routinely uses Karachi ports for both diplomatic and military shipments, neither the United States nor ISAF has ever shipped weapons or ammunition via Karachi ports," the press release said.
Earlier on September 2, the Supreme Court ordered inquiry into the issue of missing containers.
A commission led by Ramzan Bhatti was directed to initiate investigations.
