ISLAMABAD:

Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) has decided to launch a political and legal struggle against the Local Government (LG) Bill 2013, calling the proposed laws a ‘rehearsal of late General Ziaul Haq’s introduced laws’ regarding exercise of the local government system in the province.

PTI also categorically denied any alliance in Punjab with Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) on this issue, according to a statement issued by PTI Central Information Secretary Dr Shireen Mazari.

The four mainstream opposition parties – PML-Q, PPP, PTI and JI – had reportedly colluded on ‘one platform’ to resolve the issue.

PTI spokesperson clarified that the meeting held in Lahore between PTI, PPP and JI leaders at Manzoor Wattoo’s residence, “was not to create an overall political opposition alliance.”

“All opposition forces in Punjab oppose this bill,” Dr Mazari explained, which is why all these forces are allying together to challenge the bill which reflects a reversal to military dictatorship models of the past.

This is the only issue-specific alliance PTI has formed in Punjab.
