RAWALPINDI:

An application was filed at a Rawalpindi Anti Terrorism Court on Wednesday by lawyers of Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) Secretary General Latif Khosa. The application urged the court to continue the trial of former premier Benazir Bhutto’s murder case in light of the recorded witness statements and reports from the United Nations and Scotland Yard.

The applicant urged the court not to restart the trial afresh and asked it to continue the hearing from the point at which it was stopped.

The application was filed by Hasnain Raza, a lawyer on Khosa’s panel, on behalf of relatives of Tauqeer Kaira, Bhutto’s security guard who also died in the Liaquat Bagh attack on December 27, 2007.

The court set September 17 for lawyers of both parties to present arguments on the application.

On the other hand, Federal Investigation Agency Special Public Prosecutor Chaudhry Azhar Ali, who endorsed Khosa’s move to become a party in the murder case, confirmed that Khosa submitted a copy of a resolution passed by PPP’s Central Executive Committee instead of testimony, which was rejected by the court. The court ordered Khosa to submit the affidavit on behalf of his client Bilawal Bhutto Zardari.
